About Me

Rebecca Dornan, M.A
Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Welcome! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression,  and trauma related disorders.

My journey in this field began at High Point University in North Carolina where in 2016, I obtained a Bachelor of Science

degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration.

At HPU I gained valuable counseling skills with internships at United Health High Point, where I worked with adult patients

diagnosed with schizophrenia and also at Oak Ridge Military Academy, where I assisted at their onsite counseling clinic working with adolescents.  At these agencies, I was able to lead and facilitate mentorship programs and group counseling.

In 2019, I finished my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage & Family Therapy from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

While at Rollins, I had the opportunity to work at The Lucy Cross Center for Women and their Allies.  My time there also allowed me to create and lead their "Me Too" event.  This event gave the local community an opportunity to further explore the meaning of "Me Too" movement and find ways to help survivors of sexual abuse and trauma.

In the final year of my graduate studies I completed my graduate clinical internship at The House Next Door, in Deltona, Florida working with both children and adults. I obtained valuable experience helping clients with a wide array of disorders and also helped survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence. While at the House Next Door I also completed trainings in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and The Sexual Abuse Training Program for the state of Florida. During my internship I learned valuable counselings skills and techniques such as Play Therapy techniques, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Techniques, and Internal Family Systems techniques.

After graduating with my masters in 2019 I opened my own private practice and have specialized in the treatment of eating disorders, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression,  and trauma related disorders with people of all ages.

As a member of both the International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals, National Eating Disorder Association, Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing International Association I believe in and support the advocating work with these associations, psycho-education, and always striving to grow and learning through research and trainings.

I am passionate about raising awareness in the community concerning eating disorders. mental health, and trauma.

I believe that every client is unique and because of that, my therapy sessions are individually tailored to help every client

achieve their goals.

While in session, some techniques and modalities that I utilize are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Therapy (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Gottman Couples Therapy techniques, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

In my spare time my fiancé and I love going to Disney World and everything Disney and Star Wars. We have two Labrador retrievers named Duke and Gunner that we love so much.

Our dog Duke also competed all his training to be a full fledge PTSD and therapy service dog, and our other dog Gunner is almost finished his full training too! Duke and Gunner also enjoy getting to support clients in therapy sessions if the client feels comfortable.
